Where are you now compared to what God is calling you to do?

Let that sink in for a minute. Where are you in your life right now, and is that where you thought you would be? Is what you are doing making you happy, or allowing your gifts to shine through? God has placed every one of us on this Earth with our own unique gifts. Rather that is a gift in public speaking, handling animals, writing novels, baking cakes, designing marketing material, etc. We all have our “hidden talents;” the specific things we enjoy and are great at doing- that set us apart from everyone else. We all go on our own special paths that lead us to the next things in life that we are meant to do, and God is with us all the way. Isn’t that the most comforting feeling? Knowing your God is walking with you, providing a path full of life’s next steps? Sometimes we don't want to walk, we want to run to the next phase because we become so scared when we are unsure of what is next. But listen here, God wants you to walk with Him, not run. Life is not a race, and what you are doing right now is not where God wants you to be forever. He has more instore for you.

To get personal with you all, and you may be able to relate, but college graduation is on the horizon for me. I have been waiting for this day since high school to be honest, but I never knew how I was going to get to this point. School was never a favorite place of mine, even though I was a great student, you would always find me in the band or art room. Now that I have made it this far, going through all of the struggles I went through, I have no clue what is next in my life; concerning a career. Being a natural born planner, the feelings of uncertainty is new for me. Plans I thought I had, or were at least “promised” this past summer, have now changed so drastically I am now left with the endless nights sitting on my computer job searching. I have never felt so drained in my life than this process I am in right now. But here is what I am coming to terms with, just because my plan was to come out of college with a full-time job, that may not be what God has planned for me. I have no clue where He is leading me, but I know He is here by my side, and I believe we all need to be reminded of this.

Just because your life is not going to “planned” does not mean that you should see it as a disaster or become discouraged. If you know you are doing everything you can, then that’s the best you can do. What is most important though is sticking to what makes you happy. Especially when going into a new career, pursue opportunities through positions and companies that best fit you, your talents, and your values. In this season of uncertainty, take each day and focus on what God is wanting you to do in the moment. Rather you are like me and graduating with no certain career, or whatever your situation is, focus on the now and not the next. There is no need to think into the future and pinpoint where you will be, because it hasn’t even happened yet! Throw everything you’ve got into the now and trust that God will lead you into the next thing He wants you to do through these moments. Sit with Him, pray your heart out, and ask Him specifically what you are needing help with, or what you are seeking.

Where are you now compared to what God is calling you to do? Are you pursuing your passions? Are you working in a career that just is not serving you? Have you ignored the job opportunities that you should have taken? Are you taking advantage of the gifts God has given you? Whatever your gifts may be, God placed them in your heart for a reason. If you are not in a place in life that you thought you would be, please remember, your vocation does not define your purpose in life. Don’t compare your path with other’s. You may have friends who are accepted into a full-time high paying position, or you may have friends who are working fast food to make ways until they find their perfect career. We all are on our own God given paths, and we all are going through our own journeys. Whatever you do in this life, no matter how off track you come, does not change what God has planned for you.

Keep job searching, keep working hard, start acting on your gifts, and take each day one at a time. What you do each day will lead you to where you will need to be. Baby steps.
